Vander Weide Sets PVF Record with 30 Kills in Mojo Win Against Valkyries

The San Diego Mojo keep winning, and they keep doing it with different stars. On Thursday, Lindsey Vander Weide had a monster match against Orlando, swinging 58 times and recording a league record 30 kills.

San Diego clinched the No. 3 spot in the Pro Volleyball League standings with a five-set win on the road in Orlando. The sets went 25-23, 17-25, 25-20, 20-25, and 15-6. The Valkyries continue to stumble: losing their eighth straight match.

The Mojo clinched a playoff spot on Tuesday. They finish the season on the road against Columbus. Even if they lose and Grand Rapids finishes with the same record, San Diego owns the tiebreaker for third place.

Vander Weide’s 52% kill percentage is a PVL record for a player with at least 20 attacks. She also had a block, three touches, 14 digs, and an ace. Throughout the match, but especially in the second and fourth sets, Vander Weide used a dominating spike to deliver points for the Mojo. San Diego recently saw Willow Johnson be named Player of the Week, but their rotation is rich with power hitters, including Vander Weide, Temi Thomas-Alaira, and Ronika Stone. Perhaps no other team has so many big hitters from either side of the court.

The eight match losing skid by the Valkyries is a PVL record. Orlando (7-16) has lost four five-set matches during the stretch, and three more in four sets.
