Rise Lose, Magic Number Still Drops by One

The Grand Rapids Rise lost a tough five-set match in Omaha on Friday, missing a chance to gain ground on the Supernovas. But, a loss by the Mojo in San Diego still shaved one off the magic number for Grand Rapids to make the playoffs.

The magic number is 2 for Grand Rapids: any combination of wins by the Rise and losses by the Fury or Valkyries that adds up to 2, will clinch a Pro Volleyball Federation postseason berth for GR.

Elsewhere, San Diego dropped a grueling five-set match to the visiting Vegas Thrill, tightening the race for the fourth playoff spot. The Thrill still have a heartbeat, with seven wins against 13 losses. Both Orlando and Columbus also seven wins too, and San Diego has eight victories.

Atlanta (17-5) has clinched the No. 1 seed for the PVF Championship, which will take place next month in Omaha. The Supernovas (13-7) are in the second spot in the seven-team league.
